One of Astrid’s larger artworks, a whole table laid out for cooking against a deep blue ground. A footed bowl of lemons, a stoneware jar lettered FLOUR, a jug with a band of blue dots holding olive branches, a tin of sea salt, and on a wooden board two silver fish over French newsprint. A little bowl of langoustines waits to one side with a slotted spoon, everything gathered and ready before supper is made.
Painted on panel in gesso and dry pure pigments, with the newspaper collaged in and a wash of beeswax over the surface. A contemporary still life painting, one original that exists nowhere else.
