A stoneware jar lettered Marmalade, Seville Oranges in faded blue, holding a spray of red berries still on their bare twigs. It sits on a little woven mat, a few berries fallen loose around it, the whole scene set over a sheet of Edinburgh newspaper from 1871. Berries instead of marmalade, the empty jar given a second life.
Painted on panel in gesso and dry pure pigments, with the old newspaper collaged in beneath and a wash of beeswax sealing it all. A contemporary still life painting, framed by Astrid in a simple hand-painted frame, finished with beeswax. A painting selected for the ING Discerning Eye exhibition in London.
