A sardine tin opened and set against a wall of blue and white painted tiles, the kind you find in an old kitchen. Four small fish lie neatly packed in their row, the lid wound back on its key, the word SARDINES painted large across the tin and a blue ribbon below reading “in water”. A humble cupboard tin lifted out and given the whole panel to itself.
Worked up on panel in gesso and dry pure pigments with a final wash of beeswax over the surface. A contemporary still life painting, one original that exists nowhere else.
