Two mackerel curled together on a round turquoise plate, a slice of French newspaper tucked beneath them. Beside the plate sit a tin of sea salt with a little boat sailing across its label, a whole lemon and a cut half, with a slotted spoon reaching across the scrubbed wood. The makings of a simple lunch, caught before the cooking starts.
Painted on panel in gesso and dry pure pigments, with the newsprint collaged in and beeswax washed over the surface. A contemporary still life painting.
