A tin of sardines opened with the key, the lid curled back and the small silver fish lined up neatly inside. All of it sits on antique French newspaper, the kind of paper Astrid loves to work with and weave into her surfaces. A plain, everyday pleasure: a tin on the table, slowly looked at.
Painted on panel, built up first in gesso and then dry pure pigments, with the newsprint collaged underneath and a final wash of beeswax over the surface. A contemporary still life painting, one original that exists nowhere else.
